A fantastic night for Football Aid
It was a game that raised thousands of pounds for the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and Football Aid‘s own charity, Field of Dreams
Football Aid was created as a way of raising money for charity and voluntary organisations and through their parent charity, Field of Dreams’ multi-beneficiary grant award scheme, the funds raised from the Football Aid events are distributed to diabetes research and management projects, as well as a wide range of charities and community projects nominated for funding by their partner Clubs
The Football Aid concept gives fans the opportunity to experience the pulling on their team’s official shirt in the changing rooms and playing on the hallowed turf of their team.
Blackburn Rovers and Football Aid have enjoyed a partnership stretching back to 2001, and on the evidence of this year’s eight-goal thriller, the appetite for the charitable fundraiser at Ewood Park is as strong as ever. The 2019 incarnation of the annual fixture went the way of the ‘home’ side, who triumphed 5-3 in a game that raised thousands of pounds for the Community Trust and Football Aid’s own charity, Field of Dreams.
Both teams were boosted by the presence of two genuine Blackburn Rovers legends – David Dunn and Kevin Gallacher – who lined up for the ‘home’ and ‘away’ sides respectively to continue their long-standing support of the Football Aid concept.
However, the new legends in the eyes of all those who will benefit from the game’s proceeds are the two sets of players who placed their winning bids to take part in this annual fundraising fixture, with the Blackburn Rovers Community Trust’s share of the money being allocated to their ongoing bid to create chances for disabled supporters to represent the club at football festivals or one-off fixtures.
