Big success for the 3rd Special Champions League tournament in Breda

Comes to the end with a successful result the 3rd edition of the Special Champions Legaue in Breda, at B.S.V. Boeimeer. The tournament was organised by EFDN, in collaboration with Special Olympics, and it took place during the European Football Week 2024.

EFDN’s tournament shatters stereotypes and showcases the potential of individuals with intellectual disabilities. By recognising their abilities, we contribute to building a more inclusive and accepting society. Each participants demonstrates their unique skills and overcame obstacles, becoming champions in their own right.

This edition of the tournament welcomed NEC Maatschappelijk,Fundación Levante UD, Bayer Leverkusen, Werder Bremen, Juventus F.C., KAS Eupen, Fundación Alcoraz, City in the Community, NAC Maatschappelijk and Fundação Benfica, as participants.

Programme

The tournament had a great start on tuesday, when the teams arrived to Breda and had the chance in the evening to enjoy the game of NAC, to get promoted to Eredivisie, with a special 6-2 victory.

On Wednesday, the real tournament started, with first a set of divisioning matches to define the two competition groups. After that, all of the teams enjoyed an afternoon full of competition games under the sun and rain but having a lot of fun.

The afternoon of games was then closed by the closing ceremony, where every player received a medal and a barbecue all together.

As last activities for this amazing day, the teams took part in the Oreo Challenge, before leading to the centre of Breda for a scavenger hunt, that saw Bayer 04 Leverkusen as the winning team.

On the last day, the teams could enjoy a morning of football fun activities, before a last lunch and setting off to the airport again.

EFDN would like to congratulate all the participants for the effort they have put it during this tournament. Their true involvement has shown the true power of sport in bringing people together and making a real difference.
