Big Hearts chosen as ‘Community Anchor Organisation’
The Scottish Government has nominated Big Hearts Community Trust as ‘Community Anchor Organisation’ for Gorgie/Dalry area of Edinburgh. Through the Government’s initial investment, the charity will be working with local networks to support communities during the pandemic.
Supporter of Each Other Big Hearts is now one of the Community Anchor Organisations. By covering this role, the Heart of Midlothian’s official charity are in charge of distributing £20,000 to smaller local organisations, so that together they can support the vulnerable groups living in the Georgie/Dalry area.
This grant is part of the larger £10 million Supporting Communities Fund, which the Scottish Government set up, via The National Lottery Community Fund, as a response to the COVID-19 crisis. Big Hearts, working together with grassroots and small community-based groups, will use this money to provide wellbeing services, supply essential items, offer specific advice or build social connections.
“On behalf of Big Hearts we are delighted to have been awarded this funding from the Scottish Government to support the Gorgie/Dalry community at this challenging time. I am looking forward to hearing from local groups and organisations and seeing how the grants can be distributed to develop support networks for the most vulnerable in our local community” said Connor McNally, Project Officer at Big Hearts.
