#BeActive! European Union Partnerships for Physical Activity and Sport

Under the framework of the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community and the German Gymnastics Federation invite you to take part in the Online Presidency Conference to be held on 24 September 2020. It will be part of activities held during this year’s European Week of Sport.

The European Week of Sport will take place between September 23 and 30 as part of efforts to encourage Europeans to improve their physical and mental well-being, enrich their communities and empower themselves by being active. EFDN will support the campaign by sharing content online with its members and hosting challenges to stimulate physical activity and support people staying fit and healthy. Raising awareness of football-based community programmes aiming at the promotion of healthy nutrition, physical activity and a healthy lifestyle is one element of the upcoming #Morethanfootball Action Weeks (15.09. – 11.10.2020).

The online conference titled “Partnerships for Physical Activity and Sport-Be(come) Active!” will virtually connect national and European stakeholders from the sport, health and urban planning sectors from across Europe in an innovative and time sensitive format. Relevant statistical studies show that large parts of the population is physically inactive both in Germany and in other member states of the European Union. This has not only negative consequences for the health of the individual but also for the entire economy, and the potential that sport and exercise offers, has remained untapped. Against this background, it seems sensible to increase the activity rate of the population. The question is how to do this. How can we reach people who are fundamentally willing to live more actively and how can we support them?

Originally planned as presence event in the city of Frankfurt/Main on the margins of the German flagship event for the European Week of Sport, the Covid-19 pandemic changed the plans, and provides the opportunity to experience the conference in a new way: online! The conference will combine impulse presentations from scientific researchers and practitioners with good practices presentations from European projects, motivating and engaging all participants through online tools to discuss cooperation opportunities to combat the physical inactivity problem.

#MORETHANFOOTBALL ACTION WEEKS

While supporting this initiative, EFDN will also be implementing activities as part of its #Morethanfootball Action Weeks (15.09. – 11.10.2020) scheduled for between September 15 and October 11 to showcase and further broaden the reach of Community and Social Responsibility in European football. During the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks, participating organisations celebrate the work they do on and off the pitch at local, national and international levels. You can sign up for the preparation webinar here.
