Bayer Leverkusen Joins EFDN
The European Football for Development Network is pleased to announce that Bayer Leverkusen has joined the network as a new member.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen Fußball GmbH, also known as Bayer 04 Leverkusen or simply Bayer, is a German football club based in Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The club plays in the Bundesliga, the top tier of the German football league system, and hosts matches at the BayArena. The club was founded in 1904 by employees of the German pharmaceutical company Bayer, whose headquarters are in Leverkusen and from which the club draws its name. It was formerly the best-known department of TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen, a sports club whose members also participate in athletics, gymnastics, basketball and other sports including the RTHC Bayer Leverkusen. In 1999, the football department was separated from the sports club and is now a separate entity formally called Bayer 04 Leverkusen GmbH.
What about Bayer Leverkusen’s Corporate Social Responsibility?
Bayer 04 Fußball GmbH considers its local, regional and international commitment to social issues to be a matter of course. A subsidiary company, Sportförderung gGmbH, was founded to deal with these matters. “Young and disadvantaged people are very close to our hearts so we sought out specific projects where we could best provide support,” explained Bayer 04 director of fans and community affairs Meinolf Sprink.
EFDN is proud to be joigned by Bayer 04 Leverkusen and is looking forward to cooperating with such a big club.
