Barcelona women’s team set attendance record in sold-out Camp Nou

The fans from FC Barcelona enjoyed a great party both inside and outside the stadium. The stands of the Camp Nou not only stood out for the number of people in attendance, but also for the unforgettable experience that members, partners, fans and supporters of all ages, some of whom had come from far and wide to take part in this record-breaking event, were able to experience. From early in the afternoon, the area around Camp Nou had the atmosphere of a big day, with many fans taking part and enjoying the scheduled activities (skate park, basketball and 3×3 futsal tournaments, photocalls, and entertainment. Many boys and girls enjoyed their first football match at Camp Nou, a day they will surely remember for the rest of their lives because they will always be able to boast of having been able to write this historic page of the Club and of having seen a match in a very special atmosphere.

Once inside the stadium, the crowd gradually filled the Camp Nou due to traffic problems that delayed the entry of the public until the match had started. During the pre-match, the fans in the stands took part in the first-ever Barça Femení mosaic in the history of the stadium, which was very spectacular on several occasions. The mosaic bore a global message that the Club wanted to send to the world, with the slogan More Than Empowerment, in favour of women’s empowerment to achieve a more egalitarian society.

“This could be the start of a new era, the match will inspire many, especially girls, from which future benefits can be reaped.”

Normally, the Johan Cruijff Stadium a little further away is home to the Barcelona women, with space for six thousand spectators. A trifle compared to the Camp Nou.

In the more than thirty-year existence of the women’s branch of the Catalan club, the first team played only once before in the football temple of Cruijff, Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho and many others. On January 6, 2021, FC Barcelona Feminí made its debut there, but tasting and smelling the atmosphere in the stadium was not to be; because of the corona crisis, the women played in an empty Camp Nou.
