Athletic Club Foundation & Barca Foundation win awards
Athletic Genuine played the last three matches of the season in Vila-real on 10 and 11 June and were once again crowned as winners of the Respect Group Fair Play award. This is the fifth consecutive time (as many as possible) that Athletic Club Foundation has won the trophy that matters most: that of sportsmanship.
Similar to The EFDN Special Champions League, LaLiga Genuine Santander also focuses on including intellectually disabled people in the word of football. The red and white lions and lionesses achieved a total of 493 points, the best score of the three groups of LaLiga Genuine: Sportsmanship Group, Companionship Group and Respect Group. Celta Integra Foundation and Nàstic of Tarragona were the Fair Play champions of the other two groups.
As in previous editions, the Final Phase held at the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza was a complete party. The numerous red and white fans who travelled to Vila-real put, as always, the colourful note in the stands and celebrated in style the fifth Fair Play.
During this 2022/23 season, there have been 44 teams participating, during which the Barca Foundation have drawn one match, against Celta, and lost two, against Cádiz and Rayo Vallecano in the fourth and final phase of the competition. As a result, The Barca Foundation have ended their participation in the demanding ‘Deportividad’ group, in general, doing a very good job and enjoying a positive personal experience.
“The physical imbalance respectful to the teams we have faced has forced us to offer an excellent performance to avoid difficulties. However, in none of the games we have given up. We have always played with the desire to overcome and to balance the scales. We are very satisfied with the effort, the involvement and the strength that this group has shown, despite the adversities we have had to face. This is what we can take from it”.
