Aston Villa Foundation and the Twinning Project change lives through football

After launching its first Twinning Project Probation Programme in June, Aston Villa Foundation is now involved in a new project with Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). The goal of Twinning Project is to twin every prison in England and Wales with a local professional club. The aim is to engage approximately 100 prisoners per year in each of the 114 prisons in England and Wales in football-based programmes to improve their mental and physical health, wellbeing and obtain a qualification which will help improve their life chances and gain employment on release.

Using the power of football, Twinning Project, Aston Villa Foundation and PE staff at HMP Birmingham have co-delivered a bespoke FA accredited coaching and employability-based qualification to prisoners. The aim is to help teach people in prison about the workplace and offer them skills to help go forward and get a job.
