Ajax Foundation’s ‘Team Tactics’ Helps Students Learn the Power of Teamwork

The Ajax Foundation has expanded its learning trajectory with the introduction of the “Team Tactics” project, aimed at first-year secondary school students in Amsterdam. During a session at ABC Noorderlicht secondary school, Ajax Foundation coach Darren Rosheuvel, who shares a background with many students, facilitated a day focused on teamwork and collaboration, key values of Ajax.

The session began with a video and a thought-provoking question: “Are you a team?” The students’ initial response of “no” set the stage for discussions on what makes a successful team, with a focus on working together toward a common goal—in this case, obtaining their diplomas.

Practical exercises followed, including a game requiring students to alternate saying “1, 2, 3,” which emphasized focus and cooperation. These activities introduced Ajax’s core values, such as leadership, perseverance, and mutual support. As the day progressed, students began to experience firsthand the importance of collaboration, both in theory and practice.

By the end of the day, students and teachers noticed a shift in classroom dynamics, with increased teamwork and mutual appreciation. The project successfully highlighted the significance of collaboration, not just in school, but in life.

“Success doesn’t come by chance, you work for it”.
