AFC Community Trust Urge Football Fans to Help Spread Christmas Joy

Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust (AFCCT) and Northsound’s Cash for Kids are urging football fans in the North-East to spread some Christmas joy this festive season and help to ensure that children across the region wake up to a present from Santa this year.

AFCCT is proud to once again be lending its support to Northsound’s Cash for Kids Mission Christmas Appeal which collects donations of toys or funds to make Christmas Day special for children living in poverty and for a third year the Trust will support the initiative which helps to ensure hundreds of children across the region who would otherwise wake up to nothing on Christmas morning.

A squad of AFCCT and AFC volunteers, including Jonny Hayes, Liam Scales and AFC Women players, Francesca Ogilvie and Hannah Innes, will work at the Mission Christmas headquarters dealing with collections from the 62 drop-off points across the area, packing presents and loading vehicles to ensure gifts are delivered in time for Christmas.

Many of the youngsters who will benefit are among the most vulnerable children who along with their families, are supported by the Trust throughout the year. Despite the battle with the pandemic being over, many families continue to face adversity with the cost of living crisis hitting many hard this year.

“The Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal is a lifeline for many who would suffer at this time of year and everyone at AFC and AFCCT are proud to be supporting this amazing charity once again this year,” said Liz Bowie, chief executive of AFCCT.

“Despite the prospect of festivities returning to normal following the pandemic, sadly many families continue to face hardship and after what has been an anxious time for many, AFCCT wanted to play its part to ensure Christmas this year is special, particularly for children living in difficult or disadvantaged circumstances.

“The Red Army continue to be generous supporters of AFCCT and many of the wider community projects in Aberdeen city and shire, so I have no doubt they will give generously, both with their time and through donations of gifts, and help to demonstrate the true Christmas spirit in support of this worthwhile campaign.

“The thought of any child waking up on Christmas morning without a gift is heart-breaking and our mission is to make sure as many children as possible experience the wonder of Christmas this year.”

Michelle Ferguson, Charity Manager at Cash for Kids, said: “It is fantastic to have the AFC Community Trust and Aberdeen FC involved again this year.

“We rely on our volunteers to help us deliver this campaign and we could not do it without their help and support.  We really appreciate the involvement of AFCCT and AFC again and we simply could not deliver this appeal without contributions from our generous supporters.”
