Aberdeen FC Community Trust start a new STEM project

Scottish EFDN Member Aberdeen FC Community Trust started up a new STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) project with robots of our partner Sphero. Soon the Taster Sessions will start at the AFC Community Trust’s participating Partner Schools.

Matt Mead of Sphero Sport states: “It’s important to show the clubs and foundations what the STEM-network have been doing during the pandemic. We have worked together with the eight clubs (Aberdeen FC as one of them) who are part of the UEFA funding and who are all actively now delivering. We have also cooperated intensively with other EFDN Members like Everton in the Community who have ten of our kits and 150 robots all over Liverpool as part of their industry leading ESTEAM programme. Aston Villa was one of the first clubs to join and is also very active with STEM-projects and we are excited to now welcome Saints Foundation of Southampton FC. We also expanded in Ireland where we recently had a great day with the kids coding at Shamrock Rovers, as well as having more Irish teams joining as we speak.”

“It all started with an idea at Chelsea FC in 2019 and now at Sphero Sports, thanks to the dialogues with Hubert Rovers, it resulted in funding and in new projects across Europe.”

“However still not a lot of people do know what STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and Sphero Sports is. There might still be clubs that haven’t considered using Football to inspire STEM learning, as they haven’t seen it yet. At the next conferences, there will be demonstrations planned. People can try out working with the robots and get familiar with the material and ask their questions. Spero Sport will be happy to help during these days in Breda and Liverpool.”
