9th Club Brugge Cup
On Wednesday morning, the 9th edition of the Club Brugge Cup took place at the trainings ground of the Jan Breydel Stadium. Twenty-eight third grad school teams, with children aged 8 to 9 years, participated, with the winning team being Basisschool de Lisblomme at the end of the day.
Only teams, who had met the requirement of carrying out a community project beforehand were able to participate in the tournament and received an invitation to enter a team.
The BSGO Vrijdagsmarkt School received the award for the best community project. The children had spent an afternoon in a retirement home, entertaining the elderly people with music and handicrafts. Next to a trophy, the price included the unique opportunity for the children to escort the players of Club Brugge at their match against Zulte Waregem on the pitch.
Football for everyone
One of the special features of the Club Brugge Cup is its inclusiveness. Therefore, each school team included at least two girls and all teams were wearing t-shirts with the slogan “No to racism”, the UEFA-Projects, which will be further carried out after the tournament.
During the Cup, several other trophies were awarded. VBS De Vaart from Moerbrugge received the Supporters Trophy and the BS Jan Fevijn school was proud to be nominated as the “Fair-Play Team” of the tournament, due to their sportsmanship.
The final was won by Basisschool De Lisblomme from Lissewege, which will now go on to the Schools Cup. A yearly tournament, organised by the Pro League, in which school teams from across Belgium play against each other.
