50 Day challenge raises money for Morton in the Community
The #Morton50DayChallenge encourages fundraisers to get active while fundraising for Morton in the Community and causes close to their hearts. Fundraisers are encouraged to walk, swim, jog or cycle 5k a day for five days per week for fifty days.
Gillian Hughes, a volunteer with Morton in the Community comments: “Signing up to the #Morton50DayChallenge gave me an additional focus to my exercise regime. I split my activity between running and cycling to keep a bit of variety and help keep my body in good condition to see the challenge through. 50 days was a long time to keep pushing through, especially with a holiday in the middle. I enjoyed taking part in the challenge and knowing that I was raising money to help Morton in the Community develop kept me motivated.”
Fundraisers have the option to choose a second charity to split the funds with. However, Gillian has generously committed all funds she raises to Morton in the Community. Other recent participants raised for example money for local hospices or supported the campaign against bowl cancer.
Outcomes continually rise
The money for Morton in the Community is used to carry out various programmes. Established in September 2012, the Morton in the Community initiatives have grown quickly to address many of the social issues in Inverclyde, one of the most deprived areas in Scotland and the UK. Using the power of the local football brand we have seen an incredible increase in numbers across all projects as sign up, retention and outcomes continually rise. With only one professional football club based in Inverclyde, Morton are proud to deliver so many projects to serve the needs of the area and meet its mission statement and goal to be “The Heartbeat of Inverclyde”.
