3-year funding announced for Big Hearts Memories programme

Big Hearts are delighted to announce the incredible gesture from Hearts’ supporters involved in the Lodge Heart of Midlothian 832. The organisation, which has been based in the Gorgie Dalry community for over 125 years, will fund the next 3 years of our Football & Edinburgh Memories sessions aimed at older people at risk of social isolation.

Members of the Lodge presented a £15,000 cheque to Big Hearts, which will help fund the reminiscence programme of the charity until 2022.

Up to 50 free sessions are run every year in the Hearts Museum, with themed memorabilia on Football and Edinburgh history. The project has been growing in popularity and this funding will ensure these social groups can continue welcoming an average of 50 isolated older people every single week.

The next Memories sessions will take place in January 2020:
– Edinburgh Memories: Tuesdays 7 & 21 January.
– Football Memories: Tuesdays 14 & 28 January.
From 1:45pm to 3:15pm in the Hearts Museum.

Calum Robertson, Chair and Master of Lodge Heart of Midlothian 832 comments:

“We’re really pleased to be supporting the Big Hearts Memories project over the next three years and ensuring its crucial and amazing work continues. Lodge Heart of Midlothian has always had close ties with local community projects and the Hearts football club, so it makes absolute sense to assist the financing of Memories as part of our partnership with Big Hearts.”

“We’re humbled to be able to contribute to the Football & Edinburgh Memories project and ensure its continuation and expansion. It’s an incredible initiative with such profound and major impact. We’re looking forward to working with Big Hearts and the team to support participants, families and volunteers enjoy their weekly afternoons at Tynecastle Park.”
